Protect Our Winters

Took a last minute trip to chase a winter storm, which treated us to some much needed powder and awesome times!

Naturopathic doctor Cristina Allen snowsurfing in Ontario.

So far this season the hills in southern Ontario have seen such little snow, making for less than ideal snowboarding conditions.

As a high-latitude country, Canada experiences more pronounced warming, which results in much less snow and far more wet winters.

Changes in snow and ice impacts the behaviour of the climate system, affecting water resources and human well-being. This includes increased contamination of drinking and recreational water due to run-off, higher risk of water and foodborne diseases, and elevated toxicity in fish and shellfish.

Conditions and symptoms that may be caused by contamination of water include more

  • Gastrointestinal or digestive disorders leading to symptoms of bloating, stomach pain, heartburn, and cramping.

  • Immune related conditions like allergies, eczema, psoriasis, urticaria, sinusitis

  • Heavy metal toxicity related conditions such as poor attention, ADHD, autism, low energy, lethargy, brain fog, decrease or loss of senses (taste, smell, vision, touch), irritability, weight loss, metallic taste, depression, organ damage including kidney, liver, and heart disease, high blood pressure insomnia, anxiety, depression, low body temperature, loss of appetite, loss of muscle coordination, headaches, migraines, and trauama
