FERTILITY
identify and treat the root cause of infertility with an individualized approach
improve egg quality and implantation probability
prevent miscarriage
prepare and support the body for a healthy pregnancy
Approximately 13% of women aged 15 to 59 experience impaired fertility, and 16% of Canadian couples experience infertility.
This number has doubled since the 1980s.
Fertility challenges are experienced by both women and men, and the key is to uncover what is preventing them from conceiving and treating that underlying cause.
This is achieved by looking at the whole person including their family history, medical history, environmental exposures, stress, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, diet, activity, sleep, ability to detox, microbiome, and understanding of hormonal rhythms and awareness of the best time to conceive.
Preconception care is incredibly important to consider to improve fertility, healthy pregnancy, and paediatric outcomes.
PRECONCEPTION
The time leading up to becoming pregnant is the foundation of overall fertility and pregnancy outcomes, and offers children and families the most healthful future.
Naturopathic preconception care is focused on education and exploration current health status and identification of risk factors.
FACTORS THAT NEGATIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO FERTILITY and pregnancy outcomes:
poor nutrition
pollution
stress
toxicity exposure and accumulation
vitamin and mineral imbalances
glucose disregulation and diabetes
hormonal imbalance
impaired detoxification
imbalanced GI microbiome
compromised gut health and nutrient absorption
RHYTHM
Rhythm matters immensely for optimal fertility.
Becoming in tune to the menstrual cycle allows for best predictions of ovulation timing, and which days are best to have sex or inseminate. Tools to determine ovulation are observing body temperature and discharge, and/or monitoring luteinizing hormone.
Ideally, ovulation occurs when an egg has reached peak maturation and is ready for fertilization, midway through the menstrual cycle. It may however, occur earlier or later which indicates imbalance and becomes an important focus of treatment.
Sperm can survive for up to five days in the vagina.
Conception depends on healthful egg production, release of a mature egg that crosses paths with well sperm, and successful implantation in a plump uterine wall.
One of the most common causes of unsuccessful conception is being off rhythm, by intercourse, IUD, or IVF.
INFERTILITY
Becoming pregnant can be challenging, but by holistically exploring health an underlying cause can often be identified and treated.
COMMON FACTORS THAT NEGATIVELY IMPACT FERTILITY:
thyroid disorder
oxidative stress resulting in poor egg or sperm quality
sex hormone imbalance
inflammation
off-rhythm
scanty uterine lining development
blood sugar disregulation
